Stanley Kubrick is my
favorite artist of all time regardless of the medium. It’s fairly simple. I was
born on the thirteenth and he made thirteen films. Open and shut case, right? (If you are aware of the type of conspiracy theories and theorists that follow Kubrick's work that may make you laugh.) The
thing about film directors, as with other artists, is that they must make
choices. The difference is that film directors have comparatively more choices
to make than say a recording artist. It would take me hours to list those
choices and I’d still be missing crucial ones. Kubrick got his start as a photographer
for Look magazine and that experience
shines through in his films. You could pause nearly every frame of any Kubrick
film and have the glossy cover of a magazine. Kubrick was thought provoking and
meticulous. Every aspect of his films served a purpose – seemingly. This
is the barometer I use to measure all things.
Close your twitter for a minute and sample Kubrick's 13 films in literally one minute.
